Our lab investigates biological clocks, which generate daily rhythms that persist in constant conditions with a near 24h (circadian) period. A student who tries to study late into the night without falling asleep can realize the powerful nature of daily rest/activity rhythms. Clock disruption accelerates aging symptoms, but it is not clear why. We address this question in Drosophila using different approaches from gene expression to lifespan.
